The Scrappage Scheme Explained
If you have a car or van which is over 10 years old, you may qualify for the Government Scrappage Scheme whereby you can claim a minimum of £2,000 towards the purchase of a new car or van. The scheme was launched in the middle of May, and will run until the funding runs out or on the 28th February 2010 - whichever comes first. Current estimates are that the funding will run out by August, so if you are eligible don't delay.
Exchanging a vehicle that is 10 years or older for a brand new one will also help reduce vehicle emissions and improve fuel efficiency, which is great for the environment but also for your pocket. With a new vehicle you have the potential to both significantly increase your Miles Per Gallon and reduce your annual road tax costs: with the emissions based car tax many new vehicles are eligible for the £35 per year bracket, and some qualify for the nil rate!
